Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends Available Now

04. Feb, 2019

Earlier this week, rumor spread of a new Battle Royale game would be coming from Respawn Entertainment. Now it seems those rumors were accurate; a Battle Royale shooter set in the Titanfall universe was released for free today. Titled “Apex Legends”, this new shooter features eight “Legends” for players to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and style of play. Some legends include an interdimensional teleportation specialist calling herself Wraith, a technological tracker who goes by Bloodhound, and a scout droid with a zip line and grappling hook, all of which look like they may were pulled straight from Titanfall 2‘s multiplayer offerings.

As previously stated, Apex Legends is a new team-based shooter in the burgeoning Battle Royale genre, meaning the last team standing wins. When the game starts, teams choose where they want to drop onto the map using the “Jumpmaster” system. Teams also have access to a ping system, a dedicated button that marks anything on the map; enemies, weapons, ammo, and anything else on the map. This system should allow teams without voice chat to still be able communicate quickly. Lastly, Respawn Beacons are single use locations marked on the map that show where downed allies can be revived. Tread carefully, as players are vulnerable while reviving teammates.

Being a free-to-play game, Apex Legends also includes some microtransactions. These include purchasable cosmetic items and premium currency. The premium currency, Called Apex Coins, can be used to purchase weapons and character skins, Legends (6 are free from the start, two are unlockable), and Apex Packs: loot packs containing any number of cosmetic items, crafting material, or character quips. It should be noted that Respawn saw fit to show the Probability rates of the rarity of items Apex Packs contain.

Respawn seem fully committed to making this a “proper live service game,” and so I think we can expect them to push updates for this regularly. Apex Legends is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin store.

Obey Me | Release Window Announced

20. Jan, 2019

Blowfish Studios and Error 404 Game Studios have announced that their “co-op holypunk brawler,” Obey Me, will come to PlayStation 4 in Q3 2019. Check out the trailer and full press release below.

Obey Me Brings the War Between Angels and Demons to Console and PC in Q3 2019

SYDNEY – Jan. 16, 2019 – Obey Me, the cooperative holypunk brawler from Blowfish Studios and Error 404 Game Studios, fights through hordes of demons onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC in Q3 2019.

Unbeknownst to humans, angels and demons wage an invisible war, and mankind’s very souls hang in the balance. A former human-turned-lesser-demon named Vanessa Held works for one of these demons: Ammon, the Archduke of Avarice. She’ll fight alongside her Hellhound companion, Monty, against violent denizens from above and below on an unholy quest where she’ll unravel a conspiracy surrounding her.

To survive on these bloody streets, the hellish pair coordinate Vanessa’s savage skills, weaponry and evasive teleportation with Monty’s feral attacks, and magical skills super-powered by his elemental transformations. By absorbing the souls of her fallen foes, Vanessa can upgrade her weapons to learn more vicious combos, as well as upgrading Monty’s transformations.

They can also combine their powers through a Fusion Mode, which merges the pair together to become an avatar of destruction, with the ability to unleash the deadly Soul Overload attack when the Fusion bar is full.

The partnership between Vanessa and Monty forms the dark heart of Obey Me. Solo players control Vanessa and some of Monty’s key actions while an AI takes care of the rest. Alternatively, a partner can control Monty completely for co-op action.

Obey Me’s story of war and conspiracy among Angels and Demons in a decaying world is told not just through the game, but in a series of graphic novels published by Dynamite Comics, featuring art from Marvel veteran Ben Herrera whose resume includes X-Men and Spider-Man covers. Issue #0 releases in March, with five issues to follow. Obey Me comics will be available through both comic shops and digital comic retailers.

Obey Me’s universe, woven through both a game and comics, intrigued us from the moment we first tried the game out,” said Ben Lee, CEO, Blowfish Studios. “The added depth from the back story provides much higher stakes while fighting against the forces of heaven and hell.”

Obey Me releases for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC in Q3 2019. Blowfish Studios will feature Obey Me at PAX South booth 11204, during Jan. 18-20 in San Antonio, TX.

For more information, visit the official Obey Me website. Check out Error 404 Games on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and follow Blowfish Studios on Twitter and Facebook.
