Sony isn’t attending E3 this year, which means the floor is clear for Microsoft to flex its big guns at Los Angeles in June regarding its future plans for Xbox. ‘This is going to be a fun E3 for us,’ Big Phil teased.

Chatting with Major Nelson, the Xbox big cheese teased that this year’s show will be ‘as big’ as any of the format holder’s previous efforts, although right now it’s still working on the specifics.

‘There was some news about E3 back in the fall. We had a discussion internally about, “Should we go big?” “Should we save some money?” “What does that mean?” We decided, no [we’re not going to save money], we’re going to do our thing,’ he said. ‘We’re going to go and be as big at E3 as we’ve ever been. I love that opportunity.’

The executive went on to say that Microsoft is still figuring out if it’s going to focus on products coming out in the short-term or long-term, although Spencer is mindful not to give too much away this early on.

‘This is a year where it’s not strategery–we’re going to roll up our sleeves and we’re going to show. I love that. Now it’s go time,’ he added.

Microsoft has confirmed it is working on new hardware, and if we’re to believe the latest rumours, there will be two versions of its next-generation machine.
