Nintendo has reportedly delayed the UK release of its GameCube adapter for the Switch until May 2019.
Delays happen all the time, obviously, but this one is a bit tough to swallow considering the main use of the GameCube pad is for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That game is out early next month, which means it’ll be six months until you can use the adapter for it. Ouch.
Well, okay, there’s still the third-party adapter from 8BitDo, but still, you would have thought Ninty’s option would be available in time.
Nintendo dropped the news in an email it sent out to customers who pre-ordered the device from its UK store, as spotted by Nintendo Life. There’s no word yet if the US release has also been postponed.
‘Thank you for your recent pre-order of Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter for Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo Official UK Store,’ it reads. ‘We are contacting you as the GameCube Controller adapter has been postponed until May 2019 due to unforeseen production issues.’
The GameCube adapter for Switch was originally due for release on November 23. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate meanwhile is slated for release on December 7.
