Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that it will not be attending E3 2019, marking the first time in 24 years that the format holder will not have a presence at the event.
Instead, Sony confirmed it is ‘exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019.’
‘As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,’ Sony told Game Informer. ‘PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers.’
Don’t expect Sony to have an off-site event similar to EA and Microsoft, either. Jennifer Clark, senior vice president of communications at Sony, confirmed ‘we will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.’
What about PlayStation Experience, though? Sony’s skipping this year’s event, so does that mean it’s coming next year?
In that regards, Clark said that the company ‘looking at events as a whole and how we can speak more to our fans and continue to wow them.’
Colour us very surprised indeed.
