Bethesda has staple-gunned a March launch window to Fallout 76’s upcoming PvP mode beta, Survival.

You’ll still be able to play the post-apocalyptic RPG in its usual manner, known as Adventure, but if you want more of a challenge with fewer restrictions, then Survival is where it’s at. The good news is you don’t have to create a new character for Survival, but you can if you want to. If you import your character, then all your progress will carry over.

So, what’s Survival all about? For starters, everyone his flagged as hostile to each other minus your teammates/event mates. This means that PvP combat is unrestricted by invitations, so you can get into a ruck whenever you (or your attacker, for that matter) fancies it.

In addition, Bethesda confirmed that level scaling will function similar to Adventure mode, which the company says will ‘help to level the playing field a bit and give newer characters a fighting chance against high-level players.’

Things will also be tweaked following the beta, with death mechanics being one of them. At the moment, you can’t utilise the ability seek revenge upon getting killed; instead, you can only opt to respawn at your C.A.M.P. or Vault 76.

Bethesda is also looking at rewarding gamers with double Caps after dispatching another player, who in turn may cough up their Aid or other items. However, the studio noted that these changes are not yet set in stone.

Finally, leaderboards are also going to come into the mix: ‘You’ll be able to see how you stack up against your friends and others in your current world, so you’ll need to stay sharp if you want to stay on top,’ says Bethesda.

Let’s hope these changes will help make Fallout 76 a better overall experience, as the game was a bit of a mess when it launched last November. Oh, and it’s also definitely not going free-to-play.
