DICE is aiming to support 64 players for Battlefield V’s battle royale mode, Firestorm.

Ryan MacArthur, live service development director at DICE, said that the team wants to ensure Firestorm ‘feels like it’s Battlefield,’ although it won’t be matching the likes of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in terms of player count.

‘The current target is 64 players,’ he told VG247. ‘With Firestorm, one of the key things is that it needs to feel like it’s Battlefield.’

Firestorm is being developed by Criterion Games, the same studio responsible for the critically acclaimed Burnout franchise. Being a Battlefield game, it’ll also feature plenty of destruction and vehicles as part of the package.

Battlefield V is due out on November 20 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The game’s single-player campaign will adopt the same War Stories template as its predecessor, and features one chapter from the perspective of a German tank crew.

Firestorm won’t be available at launch however, instead rocking up in March as part of the Tides of War post-release slate.
