New Line and It producer Dan Lin set to haunt audiences with Dear David
New Line has won a bidding war for the viral ghost story “Dear David,” written by former BuzzFeed writer Adam Elis, according to Collider.
The site mentions that BuzzFeed Studios had partnered with It producer Dan Lin and his Rideback banner to produce the film back in June, but it still needed a distributor. After a prolonged negotiation period, New Line eventually beat out Paramount Players for the project.
In Ellis’ viral tweets the he wrote about how he believed his apartment was haunted by the ghost of a dead child trying to kill him, it begins here:
So, my apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he’s trying to kill me. (thread)

Later, Ellis posted what appeared to be “evidence” of the haunting.

Ellis maintains that the experience was real, all of which you can read by clicking here. The former BuzzFeed writer spread the word about the ghostly apparition on Twitter and came away with more than one million followers.
It was a massive success that stemmed from Lin’s guidance. There’s plenty of reason to think he can take Ellis’ simple tale and turn it into a fun night at the movies.
